Would A Coloured Designer Radiator Suit Your Home?

Tuesday January 12, 2010

A designer radiator is clearly going to be very different from your normal types of radiator that many people have to heat their homes with. But would a coloured radiator be going too far in your situation?

Before you buy a coloured designer radiator you need to think carefully about your purchase. Would a bright colour really be the best choice? It might fit in beautifully with what you have in mind for a colour scheme at the moment. But will you feel the same about it later on? Could you change the colour scheme in the room and still live with that nice colourful radiator?

You can see the main issue in play here. The radiator itself might be one of the best quality ones you can find. But if your tastes change it won’t be an attractive addition to your home any more – instead it will be an eye sore.

As such you need to be sure you have got the right colour for your needs. Some designer radiators come in black, and that is usually a good choice as it will go with every other colour you might paint the walls in at various points in the future.

But how would you live with the colour red? One website recently had a designer radiator for sale that looked like a big squiggle on the wall. It was bright red and was certainly extremely modern looking and very eye catching. But would you still like it in a couple of years’ time?

It is clear that you need to have a serious think about what you like. This kind of radiator is as much a piece of modern art as it is a way of heating your room. So in this sense you can get away with it being a strong colour even if you change everything else in the room.

The one thing you can’t really do is decorate the room in a colour which clashes with the radiator itself. So you need to bear this in mind before selecting something you will have to live with for a long while afterwards.

Coloured radiators can certainly make a big difference to any room in your home. As well as providing a source of heat they can also be a focal point, not to mention a talking point. But the question is whether you will talk positively or negatively of it in a few years from now.
